Second Annual ASSE/GCC HSE Excellence Award
The American Society of Safety Engineers Gulf Cooperation Council HSE Excellence Award has been introduced to recognize leadership, excellence, and encourage exceptional performance in private sector companies in the Gulf Region in the field of health, safety, and the environment.
The award was instituted in 2009 by the American Society of Safety Engineers' Kuwait Chapter, a non-profit organization. This evidence-based award showcases successful business models from organizations that uphold HSE as a business value and excel in performance. Award recipients will be recognized at the Grand Recognition Ceremony which will be held in April 2010.
The names of successful companies will be publicized regionally and internationally. This is an independent, transparent, and credible award.
Region VI Member Awards & Honors
Ujwal Ritwik Named Region VI Safety Professional of the Year.
Kuwait is a new addition to the Region VI family; however, in the short time since they have been a part of this Region, the Chapter has made its mark. Ujwal Ritwik has been a big part of that success. As one of the founding members of the Chapter, it’s first President, and the organizer of numerous Chapter Conferences, his leadership has helped to take this entity from good to great. In the professional community, Ujwal’s experience and knowledge are a resource from which many other professionals seek information and advice.
Jim Morris Named 2009-2010 Safety Professional of the Year by the Greater Tidewater Chapter
He has served as the Assistant Director, Environmental and Energy Management, Virginia Beach City Public Schools for the last nine years and prior to that was the Industrial Hygienist for the City of Virginia Beach. He has been in Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health for 20 years. Morris has served as Region VI Vice President (RVP) since 2004. Prior to that, he was Deputy RVP and President of the Greater Tidewater Chapter. Mr. Morris currently also serves on a number of Society committees and task forces, including the Public Relations, Finance, and Student Committees and the Sustainability and Global Task Forces. He has also worked with the Region VI PDC Committee to coordinate the student poster competition for their annual conference. He received a Culberson Award in 2007 for his work with the Society and a President’s Award in 2008. Morris is also a member of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and serves on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Energy Procurement Governmental Association (VEPGA). He and his family actively volunteer for the Virginia Beach Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Morris also coaches little league baseball and serves on the board of Hospice Angel Flight (as Vice-President), a branch of the Angel Flight charities in Virginia.
